In this game the Upcard determines what the Meld is to be. The next lower ranked card determines what the first canasta must be. If a King is the upcard then Kings have to be in the Initial Meld and Queens has to be your first canasta. If a 4 is the Upcard then you need 4's in your Initial Meld and you need Aces as your first Canasta. If the Upcard is a Black 3, Red 3, Wild or Joker then the game is played as Regular NTC.
